Here is a new interview with Greece's thrashing maniacs Rapture if you enjoy thrash then defintly give Rapture and their debut cd "Crimes Against Humanity" through the band or the Rapture's label Witches Brew.
Interview with Rapture done by Patrick
1.Metal hails when did you first get into metal music?Who were some of the first bands you listened to?Who are some of your current favorites?
Hails from Rapture too!! Let's see.. We all got into metal mainly in the age of 12-13 years old. We used to listen to classic/Progressive rock bands very earlier in our lives so there was the perfect infrastructure to get into metal! Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and many more were the first bands we listened to.
Every one of us has his own personal favorites from every kind of metal. Just for the record..Demolition Hammer, Dissection, Dark Angel, D.R.I., Kreator and Heavy load are just some of our favorite bands which we listen to almost every day!
2.When did you first meet the other members of the band? How did you all decide on the name Rapture for the name of the band?
Apostolos is the oldest member of the band and the only one from the very first line-up! Apostolos met Stamatis many years ago but they never managed to form a band, so when Rapture were in need of a bassist Stamatis was the first to pop into Apostolos' mind! Me (George) met Apostolos 2-3 years ago and we hung out a lot and became very good friends. When Rapture needed a drummer I was the first to pop into Apostolos mind too!
Nikitas, my brother, got in the band mainly in the same way! He was not even asked to join! We just announced it to him! The name in some kind of tribute to one of the best death metal bands ever 'Morbid Angel' and was picked for band name by the first bassist of the band.
3.What is the current line up of Rapture? For the readers who have never heard Rapture's music how would you best describe it?
The current line-up is:
Apostolos Papadimitriou - Lead Vocals, Rhythm and Lead guitars
Giorgos Melios: Drums
Stamatis Petrou: Bass and Gang vocals
Nikitas Melios: Rhythm, Lead guitars and Gang vocals
For metalfans we would say that Rapture is a mix of Brutal thrash metal and traditional old-school death metal. Bands like Demolition Hammer, Sadus, Dark Angel, Autopsy, Baphomet, Num Skull, Chemical Breath and Rigor Mortis are our biggest influences and our music comes from and era of late 80's and early 90's.
4. Rapture is getting ready to release their debut cd "Crimes Against Humanity" through the great label of Witches Brew Rec. how did the band come in contact with this great label?
We got to Witches Brew through our goodfellas Endless Recovery. They released a 7" Ep through the label in June 2014 so we knew about it since then. When we got into the process of searching for a label, Witches Brew was of the fist to come into our minds. We send a message with a Live-rehearsal recording as an example of our work, the label liked it and we were accepted! Simple as that!
5.Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write all the music?
Our music is written mainly by Apostolos and Stamatis. We all contribute to the composition process, each one with his own way and his personal style and preference. The results is something that has the seal of the whole band.
6.What are some topics the band writes about?
Given the fact that we play extreme metal, it goes without saying that our lyrics are something as extreme as our music. In the first album we wrote about murders, serial killers, Unit 731 (a huge crime against humanity), human experiments and psychopathy. Our inspiration mainly comes from horror movies, history, documentaries and the interest to search everything every atrocity and monstrosity. In the future we want to concentrate on the sector of psychopathology, but keep the gore and horror element too.
7.Besides the debut cd "Crimes Against Humanity" does the band have any other merchandise available for the readers? If yes where can the fans buy your merchandise?
Besides our cd we also have T-shirt featuring the artwork of crimes against humanity available for everyone who wants one! You can get a cd for 8 euro either from us or WITCHES BREW online store, but unfortunately you can get a T-shirt only from us in the price of 8 euro + Shipping cost.
8.In your opinion what is the best and worst thing about the underground scene? And what does underground metal mean to you?
Interesting question. We believe that the best thing about the underground scene is the huge range of bands to listen to. We are people we like to discover new bands every day and the underground has lots of talents that have not been discovered by a big label or a promoter yet. Latin America especially might have the best underground scene in the world counting thousands of ultra metal bands. The worst thing about underground is that a lot of bands use illegitimate ways to get fans, sell merch and book an appearance as a support act for a big metal band. We are totally against these bands because they use such ways to go high and apart from that, many greater bands which don't have the "way" continue to be minorities that remain to be in the bottom. Underground metal means everything to us and underground lives with a true and original audience of 80-100 people is enough to make us have a blast! We are just proud to be a part of it!
9.Besides Rapture are any of the members currently working with any other bands?
Apostolos has been a guitarist for our pals Endless Recovery for about a year now and he's is doing perfect! The other 3, we just concentrate on Rapture because our other obligations don't let us be in another band.
10.Rapture comes out of Greece's metal scene what is your opinion of the metal scene in Greece?
Greece has a great metal scene. There are great bands not only in Thrash metal but in other metal genres too. Unfortunately there are bands that kind of embarrass the scene. What we mean is that they care only for their views in the youtube and their likes on facebook. They don't give a fuck about underground lives at all and never appear at an underground concert. The sad thing with greek bands is their complexes and their poser-lifestyle. Of course we are talking about a minority of bands in Greece, because in general Greece does have a killer scene!
11.Who are your all-time favorite bands from Greece? Are their any new bands you feel the readers should watch out for?
Ok you'd better keep notes 'cause there are LOTS of bands to check out! Let's see...
Overkast, Released Anger, Convixion, Death Courier, Ravencult, Dead Congregation, Sacral Rage, Necrochakal, Death Trap, Saboter, Mentally Defiled, No Flame Candle, Slaughtered Priest, Speedrush, Noise Disorder,
Chainsaw, Vomit Bitch, Raw Poison, Mallediction, Inveracity, Resurgency and many more...
12.Thank you for taking the time to fill out this interview do you have any final comments for the readers?
Support the underground and metal above all..nothing more at all.
