Here is a new interview with Venefixion who recently released their demo tape "Defixio" through the mighty Iron Bonehead Rec.If you are a fan of old-school death with hints of thrash in some of the guitars then this French band is a band you will want to add to your collection very soon
Interview with Venefixion done by Patrick
1.Hails when did you first meet the other members of Venefixion? Was it long before you all started the band? What does the band name Venefixion mean?
We met each other back in 2009 or 2010 for the first time with Kev, and it happened a little bit later with Wenceslas, probably around 2013 or so I would say.
It was kind of long, yes, before starting the band. Indeed, we were living in different emispheres, Kev was in Australia and I was living for about 3 years in Germany.
That was such a distance that made that we could not actually record anything, so instead, we were writing music and lyrics on our sides of the planet.
VENEFIXION is a mix of Venefice that is the fact of poisoning someone using witchcraft and of Defixion, which in French is linked to tablets on which hair or personal effects were used to
take revenge. This is like cursing somebody so as to in Voodoo if I may say, but with a completely other dimension and also because Voodoo must stay related to Haiti and the South of the US.
VENEFIXION is actually a bastard version of poisoning via witchery and taking revenge by cursing somebody.
2. What is the bands current line-up ?For the readers who have never heard Venefixion's music who are some of the bands influences?
The current line-up consists of only K. Desecrator on bass, rythm guitar and drums, W. Cadaver in charge of the Lead Guitars, effects and solos and myself (F. Goathroat) doing vocals and writing lyrics.
Well, our influences in VENEFIXION can be displayed by mentioning the following bands: REPULSION, GROTESQUE, MASSACRE, MORBID ANGEL, DISMEMBER, AUTOPSY, REPUGNANT and EXCORIATE (in a lower degree though).
3.How long did it take the band to write the music on the debut demo "Defixio? Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually take care of everything?
It took us about 2 years to write the music, changes were made during that time nevertheless. As previously said, K. Desecrator writes the music on his side and I write the lyrics, then we meet up and put all of this together.
4. Venefixion debut demo is being released and distributed through Iron Bonehead Rec. How did the band come in contact with this great label?
We actually got in touch with another label at first that does not have any French band on its roaster, but we did not make it for some reasons. Then, we directly contacted Patrick, who we knew will be the very best choice
to work with. It was our first choice (so as to the label we contacted first), we tried it and Patrick from IRON BONEHEAD said he was keen to release the demo instantly after hearing two songs we sent him. That was a fast and easy
deal. K. Desecrator knows him as he toured Europe as live musician for TRENCH HELL and ASSAULTER and I used to trade with him at some point with my label MESSE NOIRE PRODUCTIONS and all went well, so he knew who we were in a way too.
5.Who usually writes the lyrics for the band? What are some topics/subjects you all write about?
I write the lyrics in VENEFIXION. I am facinated by Death in its many aspects. I am also interested in the different forms Evil can take and this, in all the many areas and eras this world knows. This being said, this can explain some
of our texts. The first track off the demo deals about the 'Secte Rouge' in Haiti that is some sort of an obscure Cult that does Black Masses, worships the Devil, is cannibalist, kills people, etc. The second track is only a text that
deals about the death of somebody that lays six feet under, it is only a morbid song dealing about what will happen to all of us. Defixio deals about revenge through a curse set upon someone that will never get rid of it. And the last one
is inspired by the Aghoris, also called babas in India. These guys have a very deep relation to Death and Evil. This is a very vast and interesting subject to deal with.
6.Besides the brand new demo "Defixio" does the band have any other merchandise available for the fans? If yes where can they buy it?
Yes, IRON BONEHEAD also made a shirt with the design of the demo reworked by VISIONS IN RAGS and this turned out very well. This is actually the official shirt of the demo. It just got released on the very same day the demo came out.
People can order it on IRON BONEHEAD or directly from us, on our Bandcamp.
7.Does Venefixion ever play live shows or do you prefer to work in the studio?
We never played live yet. We will play live shows but at the moment we concentrate on new material to come on IBP in the future. We will play but not on a regular basis. We have to say that we will select the shows we will be asked to play.
We would like to be quite rare, so that we can deliver better live performances, and so, people can really enjoy our shows. We will not play live every single month, this is how it must be taken.
8.Are their any upcoming shows or small tours for the release of the debut demo?Who are some bands you have shared the stage with?
There is something in the works but as nothing is set in stone yet, I can not give any further information regarding this. Anyway, people will see it when time has come. We have nothing confirmed but already some concerts in the works because
we got already asked here and there. We haven't played live yet, so we did share the stage with any bands at the moment.
9.In your opinion what is the best and worst thing about the underground scene today? And what does underground metal mean to you?
The worst thing at this time about the Underground is all that culting shit. I mean all this crap about utterly limited copies of a tape or an LP of some guys in Feroe islands or wherever in the ass freezing North pooping in the mic and having
legions of kids behind their computers wanking to death on that, contributing to the culting of it, being more Black than Metal...Today, everyone has an opinion and spreads it all over the net. Also, people taint their uninteresting music with
lots of 'atmosphere' to hide the lack of talent and people find that flabbergasting, no more no less. That is embarassing actually. The internet actually gives a hard time to the Underground IMO, it is just obvious.
Underground just means to me dedicated people doing their thing, not carrying of the hypes or trends, only enjoying what sounds like good stuff to their hears and not giving a shit to what people say and staying who they really are in the end. Underground Metal
is still strong today, thanks to some labels and some bands that keep on thinking this way...
10.Are any of the members of Venefixion currently working and playing with side bands? If yes could you give the readers some information about these bands?
Yes, we all have other bands. I am still in a Traditional Doom band called RITUAL TEMPLE (we are not dead yet), W. Cadaver is the guitar player of Death Metal band CADAVERIC FUMES and K. Desecrator has many other bands that include PERVERSIFIER (Thrash/Speed Metal),
DEMONIC OATH (Death Metal) adn DEATHLESS BASTARDS (Punk/ Rock and Roll). He was also a live member of WHIPSTRIKER, ASSAULTER, NECROWRETCH or TRENCH HELL to name a few.
11.When not writing music or working on band business what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
We work our ass off for not enough money as we would deserve, drinking fine booze and raping goats.
12.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
Thanks for the interview. Death is the most certain and indefectible thing on Earth, everyone must remember and respect it. VENEFIXION is Death Metal, we will come again as vile, hateful, furious, dirty, vicious and frontal as with Defixio!"
